Health Screenings:

Health Screenings are generally completed during the fall semester.

PK, KG, 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade students will have vision and hearing screenings. Notifications will go home if a referral is necessary.

In addition to vision and hearing screenings, 1st, 3rd and 5th will also be screened for Acanthosis Nigricans (a visible marker on the skin at the back of the neck which indicates a risk for Type 2 diabetes). If your student is found to have this marker, a referral notification will be sent home.

Spinal screenings will done for 5th grade female students only. The procedure for spinal screening is simple, noninvasive, and performed privately. Screeners who have been specially trained will look at your child’s back while she stands and then bends forward. Girls will remove their shirts, but are required to wear a swimsuit, tube top, halter top or bra underneath.
