The professional school counselor is a certified/licensed educator trained in school counseling with unique qualifications and skills to address all students' academic, personal/social and career development needs. Professional school counselors implement a comprehensive school counseling program that promotes and enhances student achievement. As a school counselor, I address the needs of all students through prevention and intervention programs.

Professional school counselors provide services to students, parents, school staff and the community in the following areas:

Guidance Curriculum-I will teach guidance lessons to each grade level in their classroom once per month. These structured lessons are designed to be appropriate for each developmental level. Guidance curriculum is also provided school-wide through announcements and assemblies that promote character development.

Individual Planning- Individual planning refers to assisting students in understanding their own development and setting goals to further their success in school and social-settings. Individual planning may consist of meeting one-on-one with a student to set goals and create a plan for academic success such as study skills or test-taking. I may assist students in creating career goals. Having an end goal in mind helps students strive to achieve more. Individual planning may also consist of setting social goals for students such as working on appropriate behaviors

Responsive Services-Responsive services is the direct and immediate response to any number of needs that may come up. It is my job to respond and assist students to manage their situation in a healthy and appropriate way, in order to assist with their success in school. This is done through prevention and intervention activities such as individual/group counseling; consultation with parents, teachers, other educators; referrals to other school support services or community resources; peer helping; etc.Responsive services can be provided in my office any day and be requested by teachers, administrators, parents and/or students for the student. My door is always open to your student to reach out and ask for help or a listening ear.

System Support-It is part of my job to motivate and encourage CES staff in a number of ways. However, not only is it important that the staff is prepared, educated and motivated to serve students, it is important for you as well. Providing parents with proper tools and knowledge on a range of topics can strengthen your relationship with your child and encourage their success. System Support also includes my continued professional development.
