The school counselor will keep information confidential, with some exceptions.
All information will be kept confidential EXCEPT when:
- there is reason to suspect the occurrence child abuse or neglect
- where there is a clear threat to do serious bodily harm to self or others
- where a court intervenes under court order
The counselor is legally obligated to share information shared by the child that relates to one of the above circumstances to appropriate parties. Information may be shared with parents/guardians, the child's teacher, and/or administrators or school personnel who work with the child on a need to know basis, so that we may better assist the child as a team. The counselor is legally obligated to share information when requested by the court system.
If you would like me to share information with a third party, such as a community counselor, psychiatrist, social services worker, or pediatrician, you will need to sign an additional release of information form.
